Home Learning- weeks one and two
Hello Penguins and adults!
If you wish to do some extra writing or maths below are the links to two websites that we use in school. The first, The Write Stuff, is how we structure our English lessons and the creator of the scheme is delivering daily writing lessons for all ages via Youtube. They begin at 9.45am each day. The second, White Rose Maths, allows you to choose the necessary year group and gives you videos to watch followed by questions to answer. This will be at 10am every day.
This half term our topic is 'Our Wonderful World!'
In our topic lessons we will be finding out about The Great Fire of London, in science we will be continuing to investigate Living Things and their Habitats and in art we will be creating our own sketches and textile appliqué pieces in the style of David Hockney.
We love to read in Penguins class!
We have daily comprehension lessons to develop our understanding, inference, prediction and sequencing skills. In these lessons we enjoy reading a range of texts including stories, non-fiction and poems.
Don't forget... whenever you read at home to get your adult to initial in the home section of your planner. When you have finished your book put it in the 'I need a new book' box so you change it for a new, exciting home read book.
Phonics and Spelling
Continuing from Year 1, we have a daily phonics lesson. Each Monday we have a spelling quiz based on the previous week's learning.
Each Monday we will have a mental maths quiz alongside our spelling quiz.
This half term P.E. will be on Tuesday afternoon. Please ensure you have your full P.E. kit with you.
Our Clay Animal Sculptures
We worked very hard to design, make and paint our animal sculptures. I'm sure you'll agree, they look great!
We had a really fun start to Book Week with a visit from the illustrator and author, Liz Million. She taught us how to draw lots of exciting mythical creatures!
On Thursday 27th February, Clare and Bertie Bear came into school to teach us all about first aid. We learnt how to help our friends and family when they have cut themselves, what to do if someone bumps their head, how to call for an ambulance in an emergency and how to put someone into the recovery position.
On Australia Day, we all dressed up and raised money to help the animals affected by the terrible bush fires in Australia.
On Friday 6th December we were excited to receive a mysterious cardboard box. Inside we found lots of old toys including replicas of Viking, Stone age and Victorian toys!
Playground games from the past
On the 20th November, we had lots of fun learning how to play some playground games from the past. We learnt how to play 'Oranges and Lemons', 'Please Mr. Crocodile' and the clapping game 'A Sailor went to Sea.'
We have had lots of fun today joining in with the BBC Children in Need schools workout with Joe Wicks and designing our very own Pudsey Bears!
On Friday 8th November, we spent the 20 counters we had saved on a toy afternoon. We all brought in our favourite toy and had lots of fun!
Funnybones Experience Day
On Monday 16th September we had a Funnybones experience morning. We learnt how to bandage arms, legs and heads and to tie a sling. Then we worked together as a team to assemble a life-size skeleton before finally meeting Doctor Fogerty who talked to us all about his job, demonstrated how he puts a plaster cast on and showed us some x-rays.
We had lots of fun making our very own paper plate pets!
