Child Protection & Security

Child Protection

Parents should be aware that the school would take any reasonable action to ensure the safety of its pupils. In cases where the school has reason to be concerned that a child may be subject to ill treatment, neglect or other forms of abuse, staff have no alternative but to follow the Local Authority Child Protection Procedures and inform Social Services of their concern.

The Designated Person for Child Protection is Mrs Anderson and the Deputy Person is Miss Haddon.  If you have any concerns, these can be reported to them.

Oatlands Infant School Child Protection Policy can be found below.

Security

Every effort has been taken to ensure the security of the school. Unmanned entrances have security locks fitted and playground gates have high bolts. The main and side entrance has security entry equipment in place. Playtimes are well supervised at all times and children are never outside school without an adult. CCTV is in operation within the grounds.

To ensure the safety of the children during the day, the school gates will be locked once the children have entered school and will be reopened in time for parents to enter the playground to collect their children. Access can however be gained throughout the day using the main gate on Cromwell Road. If you are bringing your child to school following the closure of the school doors and gates, please take him/her to the main reception entrance. All visitors are required to report to the office.

Safeguarding

North Yorkshire Police have set up a system called Operation Encompass.  This project has been designed to provide early reporting to schools of any domestic abuse incidents that occur outside of normal school hours and that might have had an impact on a child attending our premises the following day. This information will be shared at the earliest opportunity between Monday to Friday and when an incident occurs on weekend the school will be notified on the Monday by the police.

A nominated member of school staff, known as a key adult, will receive the information from the police. They will be able to use information that has been shared with them, in confidence, to ensure that our school is able to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children or their families. Information will be shared where it is identified that a child or young person was present, witnessed or was involved in a domestic abuse incident.

Operation Encompass has already proved to be very effective in providing appropriate support to children.

We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our children and we believe this is initiative is going to be extremely beneficial and supportive for all those involved.
